Dr. Hind Louali: Why Should You Consider Taking STEM?

STEM — science, technology, engineering, math — is a collection of educational programs that are more helpful and effective compared to most educational programs. This entire system of comprehensive and interdisciplinary studies provides students with a huge advantage even before they go out into the real world.

Dr. Hind Louali explains that STEM subjects are incredibly strong drivers of innovation and development. In many ways, all these fields lead to a lot of advances and breakthroughs in modern technology. All of these improve our daily lives.

In the school setting, teaching STEM can encourage exploration and curiosity in students. It can also help them learn more about the world around them in a hands-on and exciting manner. A lot of subjects rely on lessons that are mostly lecture-based. The STEM education system, on the other hand, can provide a break in that learning style through hands-on activities.

STEM activities and topics use different skills, such as problem-solving and critical thinking. According to Dr. Hind Louali, these work better when younger students can interact with the subject material themselves. For example, kids can get close and explore what interests them. They can do so by exploring bugs and plants on the playground. They can build towers out of blocks.

The beauty of hands-on learning is that it can offer a new and exciting way of interacting with subjects. It can also engage students differently and increase their excitement about the subject. STEM gives them a break from regular learning and provides a new way to view their education. A lot of teachers like STEM activities since they can interact more with students as well.

STEM also encourages more and more kids from all backgrounds to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, or math. While kids may not be planning their futures in elementary or middle school, when they are introduced to STEM at a young age, it can instill an interest and passion in said subjects. This interest and passion can last their entire lives and encourage them to seek degrees and jobs in that field.

Dr. Hind Louali explains that STEM is a great way to promote equality in the classroom as well. This is because all students can participate in lessons and activities. Introducing STEM to younger students opens the door for young girls and kids of color. They get hands-on learning experience and opportunities to explore STEM subjects further.
